Close to 12,000 top mixologists, spirits producers, press and cocktail aficionados experienced the fine-aged rums of Puerto Rico at the Fifth Annual Tales of the Cocktail, July 18-22 in New Orleans, a city that is considered the birthplace of the cocktail and is now home to the new Museum of the American Cocktail. Seminars and auxiliary events occurred at the historic Hotel Monteleone in the French Quarters and throughout the city. Tales of the Cocktail is a culinary and cocktail festival for the connoisseur or amateur to fully experience cocktail culture in New Orleans and around the world. It was the first time Rums of Puerto Rico participated in this prestigious program, with a welcome breakfast, an exclusive industry after-party entitled "Sabor Puerto Rico, Coolest Coladas and Midnight Mojitos," and a seminar featuring a tasting of Puerto Rican rums and cocktails. The breakfast was held at Cafe Adelaide, where renowned bar chef Lu Brow created a Bacardi® Gold Rum Milk Punch and Captain Morgan® Private Stock-spiced Bananas Fosters. Guests at the party held at Republic nightclub in the warehouse district sipped on rum cocktails and listed to salsa music performed by Jose Gutierrez and Vivaz! Four rum cocktails including two classics and two modern twists on classics were featured: the Pina Colada (featuring Bacardi® Light), Puerto Rico's national cocktail; the Mojito (featuring Don Q® Cristal); the Ambrosia, (Bacardi® Light); and, the Manzanita (Bacardi® Big Apple). The seminar, led by one of Rums of Puerto Rico Drinks Team's members, Ahmed Naveira, featured six different rums from Puerto Rico including Don Q® Cristal; Don Q® Limon; Bacardi® Peach; Bacardi® Select, Captain Morgan® Private Stock; and, Barrilito® - 3 Star. Naveira prepared both the Pina Colada and Manzanita for seminar attendees to taste. "It was important for Rums of Puerto Rico to have a presence at Tales of the Cocktail since this program attracts so many top mixologists and press. We learned from the various programs presented that rum's popularity is on the rise, especially high-end aged rums which have seen an increase of 45 percent in the U.S.," said Karen Garnik, chief marketing officer for Rums of Puerto Rico.
